Campaign for Ora Kinderhilfe

Rwandan Daughters

With nine committed employees, ora Kinderhilfe – currently working hand in hand with local partners in ten countries - is giving children a future. To support this work, we dared to take an artistic approach with the internationally known photographer Olaf Heine. The topic was the genocide of Rwanda, which commemorated its 25th anniversary in 2019.

The photo book supports the strong women of Rwanda, who are portrayed side by side in this book with their 25-year-old children. These children were conceived through rape, which was used as a weapon of war by the aggressors during the genocide.

The book and the 22-minute documentary about the project gave a voice to those women who are now heard internationally. The publication was accompanied by national and international media coverage, including CNN, The Guardian, The Observer and many other high profile publications. The project was also presented at the UN Women Congress in Copenhagen on the subject of sexualised violence in crisis areas. Many celebrities, among them Brandon Boyd, Anna Loos, Rea Garvey, Sasha and Mousse T., use their publicity to support the project as well.
